BABY'S DAY OUT

Yesterday we decided to have a little adventure. As the weather was nice and the nasty wind had died down, we decided it would be fun to ride a ferry to one of the islands in the Sound. There was a little time to kill before the ferry left so we played at a nearby park. V got to swing for his first time and when he wasn't eating his hand he just giggled and giggled. The slide wasn't as exciting as the swing, I think it is a little too similar to being carried so it's not new and fun...yet!

It was the first time I had ever driven onto a ferry and as the first car it was a bit daunting just driving towards the edge. I started to worry if the attendant was paying attention and going to tell me to stop before I drove off the edge, thankfully he did! We were obviously one of the few "tourists" as we got out of our car and went up to the deck while all the regulars leaned their seats back and took naps or pulled out books, haha. But it was a fun little ride and we enjoyed it. I have come to the realization though that most of our adventures undertaken in the name of fun for V, are really just for us as he doesn't so much care or remember, haha. Not to say he didn't enjoy the ferry, but then again he always enjoys getting out of his carseat no matter where he is.

V gives kisses now or what we like to call kisses. It's more like he is very enthusiasticly eating your cheek. It's sweet and cute and slobbery.
I wish you could see this better, but it's a large bald eagle. While we were waiting for the return ferry we sat and watched this eagle fly about and even dive into the Sound and catch a fish!
On a total random note, on the way home we decided to grab some dinner at Panera. If you have never been to Panera I highly recommend it as it is fast becoming one of my favortite places for a quick but not fried bite to eat. I love the Fuji Apple Chicken Salad and the Wild Blueberry Muffins. Anyway to the point, J got a Mango smoothie. As we were driving home he mentioned the "girth" of the straw. He actually used the word girth. At first I thought he was just being a geek, I mean who talks about the size of a straw and uses the word girth to describe it? Usually you think: girth=big. But when I looked at the straw, my goodness it was big, the biggest I have ever seen. And it only seemed larger when I took a sip, it was like drinking out of the garden hose! Really you could have stuck your finger in it; it was large like a Jumbo Pixie Stick. So anyway, I found it so amusing I took a picture. Yes, I am actually the geek in this story. And just for the record, the Mango Smoothie was good too.

So people just drive onto the ferry and wait in the car till they reach the other side? Sounds weird. . .how do you know when to drive on and off? Does someone come knock on the window to tell you, or direct you in the right direction?
lol I once had a very large straw like that. I choked on the first "sip" from it :P
