"AT THIS AGE THEY BOUNCE" Warren Miller

This weekend was the Father/Son camp our for our ward. Despite the rain the boys wanted to go, so biting back my motherly instinct to say "no it's cold and rainy," I made J promise to to stay as warm and dry as possible and come home if it started to pour. V was so excited to go! He has been talking about it all week. They started the evening with a fireside about the priesthood which was somehow demonstrated by the boys all standing in a row but J couldn't remember how exactly that worked haha.
Luckily they got to sleep in an Adirondack; a 3 sided cabin with a loft. V thought it was so cool to sleep in my sleeping bag, but made J a little nervous since he literally slept IN it, without his head sticking out!

After a long night of listening to trains, the boys woke for a breakfast of french toast. V is getting better about trying more foods and he readily ate it up, I think it helped that "toast" was in the name! "It's alright," he critiqued after his first bite.
The boys got to play on the barrel swing among other things after breakfast. They had such a blast and things were great. So you ask, where was the bouncing? Well as J was packing up the car, V decided to climb the ladder to the loft one more time...
Which is how we ended up spending most of our Saturday afternoon in the ER. Unfortunately V lost his footing and fell 6ft to the wooden platform and then rolled off the edge to the ground. He had some blood in his mouth, was complaining he couldn't breathe and his stomach and chest hurt. As you can imagine J was terrified, but thankfully he kept it together. V wouldn't let J put him down so some of the other men gave V a blessing while J held him; then they hopped in the car and sped to the ER. All the while calling me repeatedly, however I was upstairs showering and then giving E a bath. I heard the home phone ring and after it ringing 3 times in as many minutes I knew something was wrong. No one calls our house but telemarketers. I called J to hear, "Don't panic but V fell off a ladder, he is breathing and talking but complaining it hurts. We are on the way to the ER." As fast as I could I got both E and myself dressed, diaper bag packed, and raced out of the house. I was scared to death but told myself I was only allowed to cry in the car b/c I didn't want to add to V's fears when I got the hospital. The hospital staff was amazing and so patient and friendly, and we were able to stay with him for everything and hold his hand through all the tests. So after over 4 hours, an IV, blood work, x-rays, and a CT scan we not only hit our insurance deductible I'm sure but more importantly found out the our little boy is still all in one piece. Although he will be sore and has some bruising he is perfectly fine.

You can imagine our relief. The rest of the weekend has been spent at home for lots of cuddling and some Tylenol. And hopefully we will not be visiting the ER again anytime soon.
