THE BIG APPLE

Last weekend we were off to New York City!!! J had an interview and I thought I would tag along so we could check the place out and see some sights together. It's a big change from the "small town" life we have become accustomed to. We saw lots of places and walked more than I have in months. I was practically asleep before we made it back to the hotel each night but we had fun. Despite what the movie "Sleepless in Seattle" would have you believe it is not as easy as running into the lobby and hopping into an elevator to get to the top of the Empire State Building; after 3 lines and 2 elevator rides we made it, finally. Maybe being Meg Ryan would have helped us get there faster but the beautiful view of the city lit up at night was worth the wait. See the Chrystler Building lit up in the background?
After walking through brighter-than-daylight Time Square we made it over to Rockefeller Center and much to my happiness the Christmas tree was still up! I have always wanted to see it in person, cheesy I know but I enjoyed it. And we were rewarded by some real NYC deli sandwiches and a black and white cookie for J, so good after so much walking.
The Staten Island Ferry, NY's most popular tourist attraction and probably one of the few free attractions as well. Great views of the skyline and Statue of Liberty. Unfortunately we had a small mishap in which the bay decided it wanted to keep my favorite sunglasses as a memento of our visit (it may have been helped in it's quest by J bumping them off my head right after this pic was taken!) so sad. Still I will take the ferry over the subway anyday.
And believe it or not a store has finally been built that I can get lost in! I know it is shocking, I was flabbergasted myself. But to be fair the Macy's on 34th and Broadway is the largest store in the world and I am not in my top shopping condition right now. But it's all good, particularly if they are selling Aunt Anne's pretzels in the misses department on the 4th floor, yum!
